A mangrove forest is an important piece of the ecosystem that offers much more than we can imagine. From being a great habitat for wildlife species, being great protection for coasts, and bringing an economical added value to the local population, it also is one of the greatest sources of carbon sequestration. Check out the project here.

Planting, maintenance, and monitoring

First, seeds are collected and germination is started in the nursery. During the planting seasons, July to August and February to March, the germinated seeds are transported to the planting site.

The planting is done by the local communities, who are trained and then mobilised. Both men and women will be granted equal access rights to participate.

After the planting, the site is monitored every three months, up to five years.

Project locations

Majunga, Madagascar – The overall objective of the Majunga project is to restore degraded lands and promote better management of the mangrove ecosystem to improve the living conditions of the local communities. The area is inhabited by climatic migrants who desperately need a more stable life. We, therefore, decided to employ 111 of them for all the operational aspects of the project and offer them a constant economical revenue.
